Kat´s Top Hiking Tip:
As an enthusiastic hiker, I am always on the look-out for new routes and adventures to test out my hiking shoes. A favourite hiking staple of mine is Edelweisshütte. Just a 3 minute walk from the back of House Theodul and well-signposted, this steep but short 45 minute to an hour woodland path to the hut rewards you with breathtaking aerial views of Zermatt and its spectacular peaked surroundings. Offering the best carrot cake and freshly made mint tea in town, this little gem of a hut ticks all the boxes. If you are feeling more energetic, from Edelweiss you can continue up to Berggasthaus Trift where the landscape changes from pine and larch to rocky, dramatic landscapes as you follow the glacial river up. Enjoy an amazing home-made ice tea at the top then leisurely walk back down. The best aspect of this route is flexibility and the fact that as it is not serviced by any lifts, it is less well-know and quieter (and costs nothing).
